HO Gauge Trains

HO gauge trains are the most popular scale of model trains available around the world today. The only exception to this rule is in the UK where the slightly larger OO model trains tend to be more popular.

This scale is named on the the fact that its 1:87 ratio is around half that of the O scale. HO gauge trains work on the scale where 3.5mm represents approximately 1 foot in the real world - the distance between HO rails on the tracks is around 16.5mm.

Due to the massive popularity of the HO scale, there is a wide range of different models, accessories, and train-set kits that are available to purchase.

This huge range of products is essentially what has made the scale so popular with enthusiasts with models that cater for modelers of all types of income and expertise.

For example, basic HO gauge trains that come in easy to assemble packs can retail at less than $10, whilst more elaborate, detailed, and classy trains can sometimes sell for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

HO scale model trains are the ideal size for many enthusiasts - they are large enough to contain a nice level of detail (especially in comparison with the smaller N and Z scales), but are also large enough that they can be used by children without the same degree of worry that they may swallow small parts (although care must always be taken with regard to this!)

HO model trains also tend to be less expensive than other scales such as N, Z, O, S, and G scale trains.

Overall, it provides a nice balance between the larger and smaller models which is one of the many reasons why it is so appealing to enthusiasts.
